For those of you who visit our website regularly, you may have noticed that there was no spotlight last week. 2 kids had their birthday and we were preparing for my son’s Eagle Project on Saturday, which incidentally was his birthday. Our home was filled with a lot of excitement and feelings of stress (those eagle projects can do that to a scout and his parents). One thing I’ve noticed is that when just one or two family members feel anxious about an upcoming project or event, the energy of the entire household changes. Everyone feels it. You could say that it was the perfect scenario for today’s spotlight. Can you hear me laughing?
Our family experienced a lot of unpleasant emotions. There was arguing, taunting, and even a few teenage sized meltdowns. To be honest, I was at whit’s end and beside myself with frustration. When the several-day-long experience began, I was so overwhelmed it was a good thing that I didn’t have any “comfort foods” on hand. And I felt so overwhelmed that I forgot to use my best solution to our problem: emotion oils and our diffuser. As a result, I felt something like this, if only I had taken a picture of myself:
I can tell you it wasn’t pretty. It’s not easy to tell you that I had one of those weeks. <religious> It didn’t take long for me to be on my knees praying to God to help me put an end to all the negativity in my home. </religious> (The geek side of me spilling out- lol- with html code mid story) Shortly afterward, I had my doh! moment. Diffuse essential oils!!!!
I was a little exhausted, but I believe I got out Forgive Essential Oil. I’d like to stay that I had instantaneous results. It takes a few minutes longer than that to affect everyone in the great room of a house, but it did it’s magic pretty quickly. Can you hear my sigh of relief? It was there!
Petal Diffuser Benefits
This is why I am spotlighting a diffuser this week. Aromatherapy is a powerful tool when tensions are high, there is sadness caused by loss or other emotionally low events, and more. It’s also good for maintaining those good feelings that help us stay productive, passionate, cheerful, quick to forgive (especially ourselves- man! We’re hard on ourselves!), etc. I have found that certain oils remind me of people and/or events that are dear to me.
It is my experience that oils can also send us cues that it’s time for bed as well as time to get up. Every night, I diffuse serenity essential oil blend. It helps my mind to calm down and stay asleep. I’ve noticed that it is great when kids are wired at bed time. You can also use it as an air freshener and to remove germs from the air.
doTERRA offers other diffusers, but the Petal is the most affordable option. It’s compact and easy to stow in my suitcase.
In the morning, I diffuse a citrus oil or blend to get me started and promote a good mood. Below is a picture of my daughter that I made for one of my other blogs to highlight one of the oils I use to start my kids’ day off right:
