Melaleuca, or Tea Tree oil, is best known for its purifying qualities, which make it useful for cleansing the skin and home surfaces, purifying the air, or promoting healthy immune function.*
Melaleuca has a variety of uses. Here are just a few:
• Promotes healthy immune function*
• Protects against environmental and seasonal threats*
• Skin irritation: apply 1-2 drops of melaleuca oil onto affected area.
• Combine 1-2 drops with facial cleanser or moisturizer for added cleansing properties.
• Apply to skin after shaving.
• Apply to fingernails and toenails after showering to purify and keep nails looking healthy
Possible skin sensitivity. Keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas.
Statements with asterisks refer to internal use. All others refer to aromatic or topical use.
It’s important to check the label of your essential oils before taking them internally. There are only a few brands that are safe to take internally. These brands have stringent quality control measures in place to test for contaminants such as chemical residues from herbicides, pesticides, chemicals used to extract the oils, other plants, and synthetic materials. Some oils, due to their beneficial properties, will never be recommended for internal use no matter which brand you choose. Always read the label.
Whether you use the oils topically, aromatically, or internally, it’s important to note that a little goes a long way. Usually a drop or two will be more than sufficient. If you need less than a drop, try using a cake tester or a toothpick to extract a smaller amount.
If you are using a recipe that calls for 1-2 teaspoons of dried culinary lavender you can substitute it for 1 drop of lavender essential oil that is labeled for internal use.
